Education
I arrived as an artist through my heart, rather than via formal art education. During my recovery from a mid-life eating disorder, I began creating sculptures from everyday objects, depicting aspects of the illness to understand its grip and track my healing journey. I merge found materials and ordinary mediums with simple fabrication methods. The result is assemblage-style forms that relate complex physical, emotional and psychological issues. Today, I continue to use my artistic practice to create conceptual pieces that explore human turbulence, identity and selfhood. The universe is my university without walls. The environs of St. Louis a live studio in which to experiment and create. Absent technical training, my work assumes an unconstrained approach and liberated sculptural appearance. I take sculpture courses with Joe Chesla, head of art and design at Meramec Community College, along with classes and workshops at The St. Louis Artists’ Guild and Craft Alliance.
